Fantasy adventure "Still Life with Iris" runs April 13-17 at CCU

Danny Garrity, Sloan Huggins and Krissy Schuck star in ''Still Life With Iris'
"Still Life with Iris," a magical adventure about a little girl's search for home, runs April 13 to 17 at Coastal Carolina University's Edwards Theater.

A dramatic fantasy for children of all ages, "Still Life with Iris" opens Wednesday, April 13 with 7:30 p.m. performances nightly through Saturday April 16. Matinee shows are at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 16 and 3 p.m. Sunday, April 17. General admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children 18 and younger.

"Still Life with Iris" taps into the imaginations of both young and old, bringing together playwright Steven Dietz's language and storytelling about a little girl's search for the simplest of things at home. Captured by Miss Overlook and Mr. Maternot, Iris is taken to the land of Nocturno, where only one of each item in the world has been collected as the best. In Nocturno, the residents scurry around at night to create the daytime world since they are nature's set designers. Iris herself is the only and best little girl, but in return, she has lost her memory of her parents and home and retains only a nagging longing for something she once knew. "Still Life with Iris" was the first play written for young audiences to receive the Kennedy Center's prestigious Fund for New American Plays Award.

Starring in the play are Coastal students Sloan Huggins as Iris, Danny Garrity in two roles as Grotto Good and Elmer Most Excellent, Frances Farrar as Mom/Miss Overlook and Michael Bratsafolis as Dad/Mister Maternot and Bolt Bender.

Krissy Schuckher plays Gretta Good/Hazel and Diane Fabiano is Annabel Lee. Trey Gerrald is Mozart, and Chas Fries is Memory Mender/Ray/Rain Maker and Mister Otherguy. David Robinson Hambright is Captain Also and Thunder Bottler 1, and Jason Wiggins is Flower Painter and Thunder Bottler 2 and MisterHimToo.

Jessica Leach is Leaf Monitor and Third String. Robin Edwards Russell, a CCU performing arts professor, is director.

The Edwards Theater is located in the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts. For tickets or more information, call the Box Office at 349-2502.
