April 12, 2005

Coastal Carolina University's Concert Choir will present its annual Spring Concert on Monday, April 18 at 7:30 p.m. at Wheelwright Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

Under direction of Philip Powell, chair of Coastal's Department of Performing Arts, the 40-voice choir will feature a variety of music from the sacred to the secular, including folk music to patriotic. A highlight of the program will be the "Totus Tuus" by the Polish composer Henryk Gorecki. This piece was dedicated to Pope John Paul II for this third pilgrimage to his homeland and first performed on June 14, 1987, by the Choir of the Warsaw Academy of Catholic Theology at High Mass held by Pope John Paul II in Victory Square, Warsaw.
