Virtue Trap, Necessary Brothers host relief concert at CCU

September 6, 2005

Coastal Carolina University's faculty rock 'n' roll band, Virtue Trap, is performing a free, all-afternoon and into the evening concert on the Student Center Deck on Thursday, Sept. 8 to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. The public is invited to attend the free concert.

Starting at 1:30 p.m., Virtue Trap will perform "until everyone's pockets are emptied out," according to spokesman Arne Flaten, assistant professor of art history and lead singer/keyboardist. The band, comprised of five Coastal faculty professors, will play for six or eight hours, Flaten said.

Also performing will be the popular local band the Necessary Brothers, who are well known around the Grand Strand and have performed at various club venues, as has Virtue Trap.

Virtue Trap's professor/musicians include Dan Ennis on bass, Steve Hamelman on drums, Cliff Saunders on keyboards and percussions and Scott Pleasant on lead guitar. Dan O'Reilly is a music professor who plays saxophone with the group on occasion.

Both bands are donating their time and talent. Contributions for Katrina victims will be given to the American Red Cross. Pizzas will be provided by Domino's, and beverages will be available for sale.
