Scholarship created at Coastal for Summer Arts Academy

September 8, 2005

Two new scholarships have been created at Coastal Carolina University to help high school sophomores attending Coastal's Summer Arts Academy.

The Coastal Concert Association Endowed Scholarship was created as a result of the recent disbanding of the Coastal Concert Association (CCA). The gift will provide two annual scholarships to the Summer Arts Academy, with preference being given to students who attend the academy's music division. To be eligible for the scholarship, students must be rising high school sophomores who excel in their area of study, have financial need and live in Horry or Georgetown counties. The students will be recommended by their principal or their teacher.

For 34 years, CCA provided cultural arts performances in the Grand Strand area and provided music education opportunities by making it possible for artists to visit local schools.

For more information, call Judy Fontana, director of the Summer Arts Academy, at 349-4051.
