Coastal's "Moon Over Buffalo" features lively comedy
Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday with a 3 p.m. matinee on Sunday. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 children 18 and under, and free with CCU ID card.
Set in 1953, this madcap misadventure is about an aging acting couple, Charlotte and George Hay, who have been reduced to touring the "B" circuit in places such as Buffalo, N.Y. Fate has granted them one last shot at the big time, however, and these down-and-out thespians maneuver desperately - and hilariously - to achieve stardom at last. Filled with comic invention, running gags and absurd misunderstandings, "Moon Over Buffalo" is a love letter to live theater.
"It's laugh-out-loud funny," says Thom Penn, a Coastal teaching associate in theater who is making his directorial debut. "This play has many elements in common with the classical French farce."
On Broadway, "Moon Over Buffalo" starred Carol Burnett, then Lynn Redgrave, and is in production for the West End in London. Ludwig is the author of several Broadway and London hits. "Crazy for You" earned a Tony award and "Lend Me a Tenor" won two Tonys.
Starring Coastal theater professors Robin Edwards-Russell as Charlotte and Greg London as George, the cast also features David Russell, Christen Eason, Sloan Huggins, Trey Gerrald, Kristina Clifford and Adam Powell.
