China Abridged is topic of February seminar at CCU

China Abridged will be the topic of a seminar on Saturday, Feb. 4, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Coastal Carolina Universitys Waccamaw Higher Education Center in Litchfield.

Mike Carter, instructor of comparative theologies for Coastals Lifelong Learning and host for TraveLearns Confucian Odyssey tour to China this spring (April 8-24), will present an enlightening synopsis of Chinas past and present. The seminar fee is $35.

China invented gunpowder, paper, the compass and printing. Recent scholarship has placed the Chinese in America 30 years before Columbus came this country. Chinese medicine is now practiced in many places, including Myrtle Beach. Westerners talk about the yin/yang of things (Taoism), quote the golden rule (Confucius) and Zen this or that (Zen Buddhism) all exports of China.

Lunch will be ordered from a local Chinese restaurant.

The Waccamaw Higher Education Center is located off U.S. 17 at 160 Willbrook Blvd., just west of the Hampton Inn. For more information, call 349-4032.
