CCU Lifelong Learning offers noncredit computer courses

Coastal Carolina University will offer a series of noncredit computer courses in the upcoming weeks. Courses will be held at the Coastal campus in Conway and at CCU’s Myrtle Beach, Waccamaw and Georgetown higher education centers. Beginning Computer Skills Learn the basic features of Microsoft Windows, computer terminology, word processing, saving and printing documents, setting up and managing files, how to e-mail and more. This class is for absolute beginners, and no previous computer experience is required. Fee: $100.

Myrtle Beach: Mondays, March 27 to May 15, 10 a.m. to noon. Instructor: Jack Crawford.

Waccamaw: Mondays, March 27 to May 15, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Instructor: Carol Rose.

Beyond Beginners: Computer Skills Learn more about how to use Word. Use templates to make your work look more professional. Discover Excel and PowerPoint. Learn how to keep your machine safe from viruses, spyware and spam. Instructor: Carol Rose. Fee: $75.

Georgetown: Mondays, March 20 to April 24, 1 to 3 p.m.

Waccamaw: Tuesdays, March 14 to April 18, 10 a.m. to noon.

Computer Skills for Users Learn to compose letters, set margins, use clip art, create tables and format flyers. Discover how to use borders, headers and footers, bullets and address envelopes. Surf the Web, discover new browsers and online banking techniques, and learn about spreadsheets, digital photography and CD burning. Beginning Computer Skills or previous computer experience. Fee: $100.

Conway: Mondays, March 20 to May 8, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Instructor: Rosemary Browne.

Myrtle Beach: Mondays, March 27 to May 15, 2 to 4 p.m. Instructor: Jack Crawford.

eBay: Buying and Selling Whether you are looking for a bargain or are interested in selling something, get all the information you need to enter the exciting world of eBay. Please register as a buyer before coming to class so that you can follow along. Contact carolarose156@yahoo.com if you have questions. Fee: $25.

Microsoft Excel An introduction of the basic features and tools of Microsoft Office Excel 2003, including: setting up a workbook, performing calculations on data, changing document appearance, filtering and reordering data, combining data from multiple sources, creating charts, printing, and collaborating in Excel. Familiarity with Windows necessary. Fee: $50.

Conway: Thursdays, March 16 to April 6, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Instructor: Rosemary Browne.

Waccamaw: Mondays, March 20 to April 10, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Instructor: Tom Flecker.

PC Housekeeping: Organizing & Protecting Learn to use available resources to keep your machine running smoothly and safely. Included will be system tools, virus protection, firewalls, and spy and spam blockers. Fee: $25.

Waccamaw: Tuesday, March 7, 1 to 4 p.m. and Saturday, April 8, 9 a.m. to noon. Instructor: Carol Rose.

PC Maintenance Learn to keep up with regular maintenance on your PC for optimal performance. Learn to install and remove programs, how to avoid spyware, reduce spam, and remove Adware and virus protection. In addition, learn to use a CD burner. Fee: $35.

Myrtle Beach: Wednesdays, March 1 to March 8, 10 a.m. to noon. Instructor: Dave Shannon.

PowerPoint Introduction An overview of the uses and functions of PowerPoint with basic steps for creating a slide show, formatting text and printing handouts. Instructor: Carol Rose. Fee: $25.

Waccamaw: Saturday, March 18, 1 to 4 p.m. and Tuesday, March 28, 1 to 4 p.m.

Microsoft PowerPoint Create super presentations with PowerPoint. Enhance marketing and sales by creating a slide show that will demonstrate the benefits of your product. Discover the PowerPoint features and the steps needed to use them correctly. Learn to develop, outline and produce a slideshow with handouts. Instructor: Sal DeGennaro. Fee: $50.

Word Processing Basics Get the most out of the word-processing capabilities of MS Word. Learn how to create tables, envelopes, labels, newsletters and more. Instructor: Carol Rose. Fee: $25.

Microsoft Word for Writers Using hands-on exercises, you will be able to create, edit, spell check, use cut, paste, copy and print commands. Discover how to create various formats for fiction and nonfiction manuscripts, including bullets, numbers, margins, line spacing, pagination, headers and footers, footnoting, and indexing. Instructor: Carol Rose. Fee: $30.

Georgetown: Mondays, Feb. 27 to March 6, 10 a.m. to noon.

Waccamaw: Tuesdays, April 4 to April 11, 1 to 3 p.m.
