The Jackson Family Center for Ethics and Values at Coastal Carolina University will host a “Coffee and Ethics” discussion on Wednesday, March 8 at 7 p.m. at The Living Room in Myrtle Beach.

Coastal Carolina professor Nils Rauhut, also the chair of CCU’s Department of Philosophy and Religion, will speak on “Virtues in the Modern World.” The event is free and open to the public.

“It will be an interactive lecture with an emphasis on dialogue,” Rauhut said. “We will discuss whether virtue and ethics can help us with moral dilemmas that we face in the modern world, such as character development in education, the virtues

necessary for good citizenship, and what kind of neighbors that we want to have.” Rauhut studied philosophy and history at the University of Regensburg (Germany). He earned a master’s degree in philosophy from the University of Colorado at Boulder and a Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Washington in Seattle. He taught at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah, before coming to Coastal. He is the author of “Ultimate Questions: Thinking About Philosophy.”
