Artrageous Series presents Patti Edwards in Mozart concert

Coastal Carolina University faculty member Patti Edwards will present a concert on Sunday, March 12 at 4 p.m. in Prince George Winyah Episcopal Church in Georgetown. The concert is free and open to the public.

Soprano, Edwards will perform Mozart’s “Exsulate, jubilate,” in its entirety to celebrate the 250th anniversary of his birth. Elise Pollack will accompany Edwards on other art songs, including a set of songs by Brahms, a Puccini aria from La Boheme, humorous songs by Eric Satie, old American songs by Copland, and two Broadway songs, “Mira” from “Carousel” and “Simple Little Thing” from “110 in the Shade.”

The concert is part of the Artrageous Engagement Series, a season of performing arts events for Georgetown County, co-sponsored by Coastal Carolina University and the Rice Museum.

Edwards, a native of Georgetown, is currently an assistant professor of music at Coastal. Edwards has performed with various symphonies and opera companies, including the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, Opera Theater St. Louis, Opera Unlimited, the Texas Gilbert and Sullivan Company, the Omaha Symphony, and the Brevard and Transylvania symphonies. She earned her master’s degrees in vocal performance and vocal chamber music from the St. Louis Conservatory. She earned her doctorate in music from the University of North Texas. In 2004, she performed recitals of American music and taught master classes at the Janacek Conservatory in Brno, Czech Republic.

The concert will be held at the parish hall of Prince George Winyah Episcopal Church, located at the corner of Broad and Highmarket streets in Georgetown. For more information, contact Sandi Shackelford, organizer of the Artrageous Series and professor of theater at Coastal, at 349-2443.
