Coastal hosts Community Spring Festival on April 1

March 17, 2006

The fourth annual Community Spring Festival will be held on Saturday, April 1 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Coastal Carolina University.

The festival, sponsored by Coastal’s Spadoni College of Education, is designed to bring children and families to campus for a day of fun and learning activities. The events, especially designed for pre-school through middle school students, will be on the grounds of the Williams-Brice Physical Education Center and Atheneum Hall.

Fun and learning activities for children include face painting, moon walk, an obstacle course, live music, horseshoes, children’s sing-a-long, cake and book walk, athletic games and contests, art, music, science and other activities. There will be an opportunity to meet the Coastal football team and the men and women’s soccer teams. Community agencies will be in attendance, and blood pressure checks will be offered. Food will also be available for purchase.

A silent auction, including a wide assortment of framed art, golf packages and hotel rooms, will be available. Part of the proceeds will go to purchase school supplies for children in Afghanistan through a program initiated by Alan Case, a CCU professor who is stationed there. Auction proceeds will also benefit community service and outreach projects sponsored by student organizations of the Spadoni College of Education. The event is free and open to the public, though donations will be accepted to help defray students’ supply costs for the event.
