Philosopher, animal rights activist coming to Coastal

Tom Regan, a renowned philosopher and animal rights activist, will present a lecture titled "Animal Rights, Environmental Wrongs" on Tuesday, April 4 at 4:30 p.m. in the Wall Auditorium at Coastal Carolina University.

The discussion is a part of Coastal's Tea and Ethics series and is sponsored by the Jackson Family Center for Ethics and Values. The purpose of the center is to cultivate and promote awareness in the community of the importance of personal and professional integrity. The center sponsors scholarships and visiting scholars as well as public discussion forums on ethical issues in science, business, education, and the arts and humanities.

Regan is an emeritus professor of philosophy at North Carolina State University. During his 30-years tenure, Regan received numerous awards, including the University Alumni Distinguished Professor and the William Quarles Holliday Medal, the highest honor N.C. State bestows upon a faculty member.

Regan has published hundreds of papers and more than 20 books, including the highly acclaimed "The Case for Animal Rights." He is universally recognized as the leading spokesperson for the philosophy of animal rights.
