High school math whizzes compete in annual meet at CCU
High schools that competed in the 2006 contest were: A.C. Flora, Aynor, Ben Lippen, Carolina Forest, Carvers Bay, Conway, Creek Bridge, Dobyns-Bennett (Tenn.), Fairfield Central, Gooses Creek, John T. Hoggard (N.C.), Lakewood, Loris, Mullins, Myrtle Beach, Socastee, Spring Valley, Summerville, Waccamaw, Wando, Williston-Elko, Wilson, W.J. Keenan and Woodland.
School competition winners by category were:
Small schools - Level 1: Ben Lippen High School (Joshua Kim, Michelle Nations and Jonathan Hodges)
Large schools - Level 1: Dobyns-Bennett High School (Justin Harvey, James Templeton, Chris Jack)
Small schools - Level 2: Ben Lippen (David Lim, Amy Oh, Nick Williamson, You-ri Kim)

Students in the competition were given written examinations. Level I questions were taken from Algebra I, Algebra II and Geometry; Level II questions were taken from Algebra III, Geometry, Pre-Calculus and Trigonometry. Individual winners received $100 gift cards for first place, $75 gift cards for second place and $50 gift cards for third place in each category. All competing students and their sponsors received specially-designed T-shirts.
