Coastal launches internal search for new provost

Coastal Carolina University has announced that an internal search for a new provost to lead the academic divisions of the university is under way.

Peter B. Barr steps down as provost and senior vice president on June 30, to assume a new position as president of Glenville State College in Glenville, W.Va. He has been Coastal's provost since August 2002.

President Ronald R. Ingle has appointed a search committee chaired by Joan Piroch and including the associate deans of each college. A new provost should be in place by commencement on May 6, according to Ingle.

Other members of the committee are Judy Vogt, Marvin Marozas, Deborah Vrooman, Sam Wathen, Dan Ennis and Barbara Chessler.

The provost is administratively responsible for planning, organizing, budgeting, coordinating, directing and evaluating the instructional, research and public service activities of the university.
