Coastal Carolina University hires new public safety director

Greg Weisner of Spartanburg has been named Coastal Carolina University’s chief of public safety, effective May 15. His responsibilities will include the administration of Coastal’s Department of Public Safety and the development and administration of the university’s fire, safety and hazardous materials program. He also will serve as a liaison between the university and health and safety compliance agencies such as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

Weisner has 15 years experience in collegiate public safety and was chief of campus safety at Spartanburg Methodist College (SMC) for the past eight years. He also served as SMC’s coordinator of student activities and director of residence life.

Weisner earned a bachelor’s degree in human services at Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs, N.C., and an associate’s degree in criminal justice at SMC. He and his wife Joy have two children, Will and Breanna.
