June 26, 2006

Coastal Carolina University presents the 2006 Summer Arts Academy Exhibit on Wednesday, June 28 at the Rebecca Randall Bryan Art Gallery from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event, featuring the original work of 70 middle and high school students from Horry County, is free and open to the public.

The exhibition will feature more than 200 works of art, a culmination of the Summer Arts Academy's 10-day workshop on the visual arts, directed by Susan Slavik, professor of visual arts at Coastal and 2005 Art Educator of the Year. A light lunch will be served in the courtyard.

The 7th- through 12th-grade participants were taught skills in visual communication, portfolio development and the manipulation of two and three-dimensional media. Classes included drawing, portraiture, painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking and graphic design; 26 classes were taught by 15 instructors including CCU faculty, professional artists and other art educators.

The gallery is located in Coastal's Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts. For more information, call 349-2735.
