Dan Lawless, associate registrar at Coastal Carolina University, was recently named interim registrar for the university. He fills the position previously held by Brenda Sawyer, who served as the university's registrar from 1992 until her retirement in 2006.

A native of Syracuse, N.Y., Lawless joined the Coastal staff in 1995 as a systems administrator in the university's Information Technology Services. He moved to the Office of the Registrar as assistant registrar in 2000 and was named associate registrar in 2004. Prior to Coastal, Lawless worked for six years at Lockheed Martin where he was a software and project engineer on various defense contracts. He earned a bachelor's degree in computer science from Syracuse University.

The Office of the Registrar is responsible for the management of academic records, coordination of registration activities, and other assorted student services.
