  Artist Thomas Kinkade
Popular North Carolina artist Thomas Kinkade is donating one of his original paintings for auction on Saturday, Sept. 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. to raise money for the Points of Light Foundation and StepUp!, the Grand Strand's local volunteer center agency.

The auction will be held in the Kensington Ballroom at Embassy Suites Hotel at Kingston Plantation in Myrtle Beach. Kinkade will sign the painting for the winning bidder, and do a live sketch for the audience.

"Lakeside Manor" is the limited edition painting that will be auctioned for the fundraiser; a portion of the proceeds will go to StepUp!, the agency created in 2005 to coordinate volunteer efforts on the Grand Strand. The painting's approximate value is $1,700.

Kinkade, known as the "Painter of Light," has partnered with the Points of Light Foundation to increase public awareness to the value of volunteering and to support community volunteer centers throughout the nation.

Aiming to increase community engagement and involve more Myrtle Beach area residents in volunteerism. StepUp! Was founded through a Knight Foundation grant to recruit and mobilize volunteers, as well as help them develop ongoing relationships with community nonprofit groups.

Kinkade is on an 18-city tour visiting Thomas Kinkade Signature Art Galleries. While on tour, he will promote the mission of the Points of Light Foundation & Volunteer Center National Network. For more information, call 349-6495.
