Pianist Gary Stegall, associate professor of music at Coastal Carolina University, is presenting a complete cycle of the Mozart piano sonatas this year to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the birth of the composer.

The third recital in the series is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 29 at 7:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts. The event is free and open to the public, but tickets are required and may be picked up at the Wheelwright Box Office during daily business hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Stegall will perform five works: Sonata in E flat K. 282 and Sonata in G Major, K. 283, both composed in Salzburg in 1774 when Mozart was 18; Sonata in D Major, K. 284, written in Munich in 1775 when Mozart was 19; Sonata in C Major, K.309, composed in Mannheim in 1777 at the age of 21; and Sonata in C Major, K. 545 composed in Vienna in 1788 at the age of 32.

The final concert in the series is scheduled for Dec. 5, the 250th anniversary of Mozart's death. Stegall has performed throughout the U.S., Canada, Asia and Africa, as well as at the Vatican. As a chamber musician, he has performed at Piccolo Spoleto and as a guest artist with the dePasquale String Quartet of the Philadelphia Orchestra. He has appeared as a solo artist with orchestras including the Los Angeles Solo Repertory Orchestra, the Washington Metropolitan Orchestra, the Charleston Symphony, Long Bay Symphony and others.

Stegall's compact disc of the solo piano music of Belgian impressionist composer Joseph Jongen is in worldwide release on the Klavier-Kalmus International label.
