October 4, 2006

Coastal Carolina University's Concert and Chamber Choirs will present a Fall Choral Concert on Tuesday, Oct. 10 at 7:30 p.m. in Wheelwright Auditorium. The Aynor High School choirs will also perform. The event is free and open to the public, but tickets are required and may be picked up at the box office from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday or 90 minutes prior to the concert.

Coastal's Concert Choir will perform a selection of spirituals, including two works by composer Moses Hogan. The Chamber Choir will perform a set of pieces based on texts by American poet Langston Hughes and set to music by American composer Ricky Ian Gordon. They will also debut a piece arranged by a Coastal music major. Some jazz selections will also be performed by the choirs and by featured soloists from Coastal and from Aynor High School, according to Terri Sinclair, director of CCU's choirs.

The Chamber Choir is comprised of 12 Coastal students who audition for a place in the group. Coastal's Concert Choir features 47 talented singers.

The Aynor choirs are directed by Amy Ward.
