CCU professor and noted soprano perform recital at Coastal

Pianist Gary Stegall and soprano Susan Lyle will perform on Friday, Nov. 10 at 7:30 p.m. at Coastal Carolina University.

The event, which will be in the Recital Hall of the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts, is free and open to the public but tickets are required.

The program will include selections from two baroque era operas by Handel and Lully, two lieder songs by Richard Strauss, and popular Spanish folk songs by Manuel Defalla among other pieces.

Stegall, associate professor of music at CCU, has performed throughout the U.S., Europe, Canada and Egypt, having given solo piano recitals at St. Martin-in-the-Fields, London; the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.; the American Church in Paris; and the Dame Myra Hess Series at the Chicago Cultural Center.

As a chamber musician, he has performed at Piccolo Spoleto and as a guest artist with the dePasquale String Quartet of the Philadelphia Orchestra. He has appeared as a solo artist with orchestras including the Los Angeles Solo Repertory Orchestra, the Washington Metropolitan Orchestra, the Charleston Symphony, Long Bay Symphony and others. He is also music director at Precious Blood of Christ Catholic Church in Pawleys Island.

Lyle, professor of voice and director of choral activities at Converse College's Petrie School of Music, has led an extensive career as a solo artist, performing with such organizations as the Long Bay Symphony, the Baltimore Opera Company, the Annapolis Opera, the Calgary Bach Festival Society and the Handel Choir of Baltimore. She was a first place winner in the Annapolis Opera competition and has been a fellowship recipient at the Tanglewood Festival in Massachusetts. She has performed solo recitals to critical acclaim in the United States, Canada, Austria and Germany.

Tickets for the performance must be picked up in person from Wheelwright Box Office Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. or 90 minutes prior to the performance at the Recital Hall.
