Coastal Carolina University's Lifelong Learning program has a variety of courses beginning this weekend and next week at Coastal's locations in Conway (main campus), Myrtle Beach and Litchfield.

One-day programs being held on Saturday, Nov. 11 include:

Main campus:

Dollmaking: Finding the Little Girl Within will focus on creating dolls from one's own inspirational resources. The course, taught by Zenobia Washington, will include a Gullah lunch of gumbo, cornbread and bread pudding, which is included in the $75 workshop fee. The course lasts from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Memoir Writing Workshop, led by Jackie Boyce, will help participants get started on writing their own memoir. The workshop will last from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and participants may bring their own lunch or eat at the Commons. The fee is $45.

Waccamaw Higher Education Center:

Writing the Necessary Poem, led by Susan Meyers, will teach participants of all levels how to generate new poems that matter. A light lunch can be purchased or participants can bring their own. The workshop, scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., is $30.

The Book Club will meet weekly on Mondays from 1 to 2:30 p.m.; the fee for the year is $20.

Yoga for Health with Jessica Stout will begin a four-week session on Tuesday, Nov. 14 from 3 to 4 p.m. The fee is $45.

Introduction to Microsoft Excel, a two-week program with Rosemary Browne, begins Thursday, Nov. 16 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. The fee is $35.

Myrtle Beach:

Watercolor Painting, a six-week session with Susan Duke, begins on Monday, Nov. 13 from 9:30 a.m. to noon. No previous experience is required; the fee is $75 plus materials.

Waccamaw Center:

Introduction to Japanese Culture with Yukiko Murata begins on Monday, Nov. 13 from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The fee is $40.

Introductory Workshop on Microsoft Excel with Carol Rose offers a single-session introduction to the computer program from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 13. The fee is $20.

Great Gardens of North America with Richard Hull begins a five-week virtual tour for horticulturalists, botanists and those who love gardening on Tuesday, Nov. 14 from 1 to 3 p.m. The fee is $45.

Database Basics with Jack Crawford offers a single session workshop on using stored information to address envelopes, write letters and make labels just in time for the holidays on Monday, Nov. 20 from 10 a.m. to noon. The fee is $20. That afternoon, from 2 to 4 p.m., you are invited to bring your Microsoft Windows computer frustrations to the PC Workshop led by Jack Crawford. The fee is $20. Waccamaw Center:

Introductory Workshop to Microsoft PowerPoint a single session with Carol Rose is from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. and the fee is $20.

Special program in December:

A Plantation Christmas at Hobcaw with Lee Brockington and Richard Camlin is a field trip and lecture at Hobcaw Barony. Participants will learn about the Christmas customs of the 19th century. On rice plantations, owners and slaves prepared for the season using native pine and cedar, decorating with smilax and mistletoe, and preparing hams and pecan pies. The program, offered Wednesday to Friday, Dec. 6 to 8, from 2 to 4 p.m. each day, includes a plantation customs booklet, tree trimming at Hobcaw House with low country holiday refreshments, and "Jingle Bells" in Gullah. The fee is $30.
