Jazz After Hours concert to feature various music types

Jazz after Hours, Coastal Carolina University's jazz big band, will present a fall concert on Wednesday, Nov. 15 at 7:30 p.m. in Wheelwright Auditorium.

Coastal's 20-musician jazz ensemble with a big band sound will perform a variety of classic jazz songs and modern big band arrangements. Featured composers will include: Thelonius Monk, Lester Young, Hoagy Carmichael and songs made famous by Frank Sinatra and Johnny Mathis. Student soloists will also be featured during the performance.

The concert will also include a smaller improvisational group, the After Hours Combo, who will perform while the audience arrives and periodically throughout the concert. They will perform songs made by famous by Ray Charles, George Benson and the Rippingtons.

Dan O'Reilly, a teaching associate at Coastal who performs in various bands and orchestras around the Grand Strand, directs the band.

General admission is $8 and admission for alumni, senior citizens and Lifelong Learning members is $6; children 18 and under are free. Tickets for the performance must be picked up from Wheelwright Box Office Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. For more information, call 349-2502.
