Santa Claus sets up shop in Gingerbread House at Coastal

November 28, 2006

Area children are invited to visit Santa at his "workshop," a life-size gingerbread house located on the Coastal Carolina University campus.

Santa will be in town Wednesday, Nov. 29 and Thursday, Nov. 30 from 4 to 7 p.m. The gingerbread house faces Chanticleer Drive in front of the residence halls across from the E. Craig Wall Sr. College of Business Administration. Free hot chocolate, cookies, storytelling, a gift and photos with Santa will be available for children. The free event is open to the public and sponsored by Coastal's Office of Residence Life.

The gingerbread house was created and is operated by Coastal's Residence Life maintenance staff and other volunteer staff members including students. It was the dream of retired maintenance man Edward Brunette to convert an old pump house into a gingerbread house for the community and for children. Each year hundreds of children come to see Santa at Coastal's own gingerbread house.
