January 16, 2007

The Ransom-Pecoraro Duo from North Carolina will perform in concert on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 7:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts. The event is free and open to the public, but tickets are required.

The duo is comprised of flutist Elizabeth Ransom and guitarist Joseph Pecoraro, who have performed extensively as soloists, chamber musicians, and with orchestras in prestigious venues in North Carolina, across the United States and abroad.

Two master classes are also being taught by the musicians at 2 p.m. the same day, and local middle and high school students and teachers are invited to attend.

Pecoraro's performances have received widespread recognition and awards. Recent appearances include performances as soloist with the Wintergreen Festival and Roanoke Symphony orchestras, solo recitals at the Kennedy Center, the Chicago Cultural Center, and in France, Italy, Mexico and Switzerland. He is frequently featured on radio and television broadcasts. His recordings feature major works by Domeniconi, Ponce, Hirsh, Bach, Merlin and others. In 1998, he was appointed to the artist faculty of the North Carolina School of the Arts.

Ransom is known to audiences in North Carolina and the Southeastern United States as a soloist and chamber musician, and she also has performed on several occasions in Germany, Italy, Switzerland and France. An international prizewinner of several competitions here and abroad, she is a member of the Winston-Salem Symphony and the Carolina Chamber Symphony. She is a member of the Bolton Woodwind Quintet, which has received national and international acclaim for its innovative arts-in-education programs involving curriculum integration and has been featured on WFDD, NPR, BBC radio and in Symphony Magazine. Ransom is on the faculties of Davidson College, Lenoir-Rhyne College and the North Carolina School of the Arts Community Music School, and she teaches at the New England Music Camp in the summers.

Tickets for the concert may be picked up from Wheelwright Box Office from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday or 90 minutes prior to the concert at the venue. For more information on the master class, contact Amy Tully at 349-2352.
