Patty, also known as "The Voice," has earned five Grammy Awards, three platinum and five gold records as well as 39 Dove Awards from the Gospel Music Association. While studying at Anderson, she sang background vocals and recorded commercial jingles including one for Juicy Fruit gum.

In 1982 she won her first two Dove awards and sang backup for gospel music legend Bill Gaither. In 1984 Patty headlined her own national tour. She achieved national acclaim after performing "The Star-Spangled Banner" during the July 4, 1986, Statue of Liberty rededication broadcast.
