Christian singer Sandi Patty to perform at Coastal
Patty, also known as "The Voice," has earned five Grammy Awards, three platinum and five gold records as well as 39 Dove Awards from the Gospel Music Association. In 1997 she was the lead performer at the Presidential Inaugural Gala, and in 2004 she was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame. Patty, who has recorded more than 30 albums, is the most-awarded female singer in the history of the Gospel Musical Association.
Patty was born in Oklahoma City to a father who was a minister of music and a mother who was the church pianist. Throughout her childhood the family traveled during summer vacations across the country and performed as "The Ron Patty Family." After graduating high school in San Diego, Patty attended San Diego State University and Anderson University in Anderson, Ind., where she studied voice and conducting. While studying at Anderson, she sang background vocals and recorded commercial jingles including one for Juicy Fruit gum.
In 1982 she won her first two Dove awards and sang backup for gospel music legend Bill Gaither. In 1984 Patty headlined her own national tour. She achieved national acclaim after performing "The Star-Spangled Banner" during the July 4, 1986, Statue of Liberty rededication broadcast.
Admission is $30 for first floor section I seats, and $25 for first floor section II and balcony seats. Students 18 and under receive a $5 discount. Tickets for the performance may be picked up from Wheelwright Box Office Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., or 90 minutes prior to the performance.
