Coastal Carolina University's Symphonic Band and Concert Choir will perform Carl Orff's secular cantata "Carmina Burana," on Tuesday, March 6 at 7:30 p.m. at Wheelwright Auditorium. Tickets are $8 general adult admission and $6 for alumni and senior citizens.

The groups will be under the direction of Coastal professors, Jim Tully and Terri Sinclair. The scenic cantata, known as one of the most commercially successful classical compositions of the twentieth century, contains 25 movements for soprano, tenor and baritone soloists, among others. The subject of the lyrics is centered around wine, women and love. "Carmina Burana" is the first part of Orff's trilogy "Trionfi."

Tully, a professor of music is the founding director of the CCU band program. He earned a bachelor's degree in music education and a master's degree in wind band conducting from West Virginia University, and a doctorate in music from the University of Memphis.

Sinclair is the director of choral activities at Coastal. She earned a bachelor's degree in piano performance from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a master's degree in choral conducting from Florida State University, and a doctorate in choral conducting from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
