New class of Wall Fellows named at Coastal Carolina

  Class of 2009 Wall Fellows
Ten rising juniors have been selected for the Class of 2009 Wall Fellows program at Coastal Carolina University.

The members of the new Wall Fellows class are: Kristin Aldridge, a resort tourism and management major from Mechanicsville, Md.; Ryan Green, a marketing major from Alliance, Ohio; Trevor Horrocks, an economics major from Myrtle Beach; Brian Johns, a business management and finance major from Milford, N.J.; Kate Mandel, an accounting major from West Monroe, N.Y.; Christopher Miller, a business management major from Myrtle Beach; Kelsey Riffel, a biology major from Wichita, Kan.; Christopher Shull, an accounting major from Lancaster, Pa.; Kimberly Daniel, a communication major from Longs; and C. Michelle McDaniel, a political science and communication major from Seneca.

"We are pleased to welcome the Class of 2009 into the Wall Fellows program," said Ned Cohen, director of the Wall Fellows program. "This program is based on leadership development and community service, and we believe these students will carry on with that tradition and commitment."

The Wall Fellows program was initiated in 1993 by the late Conway businessman Craig Wall Jr. in response to the need for business graduates with stronger leadership, critical thinking and interpersonal skills. Though the program is intended primarily for business students, students from humanities and, this year for the first time, sciences are now being included.

Students are chosen for the Wall Fellows program through a competitive application process. The primary focus of the program is a rigorous three credit-hour per semester course which covers specific nontraditional areas including interpersonal and communications skills, ethics, business and social etiquette and cross cultural business skills. Fellows are also expected to complete a full-time, six-month internship out of the area during the program, as well as an international experience between their junior and senior years.

Since the program was initiated, Wall Fellows have had internships at major companies in New York, Atlanta, London, Barcelona, Mainz (Germany), Brussels and Santiago, as well as other metropolitan cities.
