Garland named interim vice president for finance at Coastal Carolina University

Will Garland has been named interim vice president for finance at Coastal Carolina University. He will be responsible for overseeing all financial operations of the university until a full-time chief financial officer is hired, according to Coastal President David A. DeCenzo.

Garland was a member of Coastal's business faculty from 1974 to 1997, and he served as director of Coastal's interdisciplinary studies program. During his years as a Coastal professor, Garland also served as assistant dean of academic affairs (1977-1979) and associate chancellor for fiscal affairs and administration (1979-1984).

A native of Boiling Strings, S.C., Garland served in the U.S. Air Force before earning a bachelor's degree in industrial management from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1968. He earned an M.B.A. from Georgia State University in 1970.

In 2000, Garland was elected to the Horry County School Board. Since 2002 he has served as chairman of the board.
