'The Comedy of Errors' to play in CCU's courtyard setting

September 18, 2007

Coastal Carolina University's Department of Theatre is presenting Shakespeare's "The Comedy of Errors" on Wednesday, Oct. 3 through Sunday, Oct. 7 in the courtyard of the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts. Performances are nightly at 7:30 p.m. with matinees at 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. There is no Sunday evening performance.

Tickets, available at the Wheelwright Box Office, are $12 general admission, $8 alumni and seniors; $6 faculty and staff; free to CCU students with ID. Tickets will also be sold at the door 90 minutes prior to the performance.

"The Comedy of Errors," one of Shakespeare's early plays, is the story of two pairs of identical twins (master and servant), separated by a shipwreck in early childhood, who unwittingly cross paths in the magical city of Ephesus. A pair of spirited sisters discover that love at first sight isn't easy when two men look the same. A series of chance encounters leads to mistaken identities at every turn, creating a whirlpool of confusion.

Featured are Brian Dunlop and James Wells, the twin brothers; Amelia Hammond and Jessica Leach as the sisters in love with them; Elijah Armstrong, Jordan Alcoba, Kirk Johnson, Dan Ennis, Brandon Clark, Matt James, Brittany Kelly, Darcy Barr, Caroline Davis, Frances Farrar, Bethany Trotter, Colin Rodgers, Jackie Lawrence and Jen Hartmann. Most of the cast are students who are theater majors.

Directed by Steve Earnest, the production is being staged in the Edwards Courtyard in Coastal's own re-creation of an Elizabethan outdoor stage. Optional lawn seating is available, so audience members are encouraged to bring a blanket for seating.
