Coastal presents the political satire of The Capitol Steps

September 19, 2007

The Capitol Steps, a troupe of Senate staffers-turned-comedians who travel the country satirizing the people who once employed them, will perform at Coastal Carolina University's Wheelwright Auditorium on Thursday, Oct. 4 at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are $30 for the center main floor and balcony section or $25 for side and back seats on the main floor and balcony. Students 18 and under receive a $5 discount.

The Capitol Steps have recorded 27 albums of song parodies, including the most recent, "Springtime for Liberals." They've been featured on NBC, ABC, CBS, PBS and can be heard four times a year on National Public Radio stations nationwide during their "Politics Takes a Holiday" radio specials. The Capitol Steps have performed for the last five presidents.

Material for The Capitol Steps program is updated constantly to reflect day-to-day political situations. Some of their current numbers include "A Leader Like Barack" (to "The Leader of the Pack") and a send-off of Ann Coulter called "Loonies of the Right." Strictly nonpartisan, The Capitol Steps call themselves "equal opportunity offenders."
