Coastal presents a patriotic concert by the WAF Band

September 28, 2007

The WAF Band, Women of the Air Force, will perform in Wheelwright Auditorium at Coastal Carolina University on Wednesday, Oct 10 at 7:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, but tickets are required.

From 1951 to 1961, the original U.S. WAF Band toured the country, playing on troop ships, at VA hospitals and even marching in President Dwight D. Eisenhower's inaugural parade (twice). Some 235 women played in the band during those years, and 40 years later the survivors reassembled for a series of reunion tours that have been highly popular all around the country. At any given time, approximately 50 female musicians comprise the band.

The WAF Band is also having its reunion Oct. 8 to 14 in Myrtle Beach.

Tickets for the performance must be picked up in person from the Wheelwright Box Office Monday through Friday between the hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or prior to the performance. Tickets are limited to two per person.

For more information, call the Wheelwright Box Office at 349-2502.
