Former National Football League (NFL) Director of Broadcasting Dick Maxwell will speak at Coastal Carolina University on Wednesday, Oct. 10 at 1 p.m. in Wheelwright Auditorium. Maxwell's lecture, which is part of CCU's Recreation and Sport Management Program Invited Lecture Series, is free and open to the public.

Currently an NFL consultant in the areas of television and instant replay, Maxwell has worked at about every level of the sports organization during the past 36 years. He was director of public relations and promotions for the Denver Broncos in 1971 and for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers starting in 1976. Most recently, he served as the NFL's director of information, followed by his position as director of broadcast services.

Maxwell has worked 32 Super Bowls, led the development of the league's annual pro bowl, and coordinated several NFL games and events in international locations. He retired in 2006 and, in 2007, received the prestigious Val Pinchbeck Award, honoring those who have been instrumental in the development of the National Football League. A frequent university lecturer, Maxwell and his wife of 33 years, Kendra, now live in Southport, N.C.
