Coastal students, faculty and staff can swap out old, energy-inefficient light bulbs for new, energy saving CFL (compact fluorescent light) bulbs on Wednesday, Oct. 31 as part of the "Change A Light" campaign. This energy awareness drive is sponsored by the CCU Campus and Community Sustainability Initiative and Santee Cooper.

To get your new bulbs, drop by Prince Lawn between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. The CFL bulbs, provided by Santee Cooper and the Sierra Club-Winyah Group, cost more than incandescent bulbs but use a fraction of the energy and last 10 times as long.

The Change A Light exchange at CCU recognizes the first anniversary of the dedication of the Green Power Solar Pavilions on East Chanticleer Drive. The bulb campaign is part of the Energy Star program, a federal effort in which more than 900,000 people have pledged to change some 2.3 million light bulbs. The goal of the program is to save more than $61,243,000 in energy costs and prevent more than 955,000 pounds of greenhouse gas emissions nationwide.
