Poet Vandenberg to give readings, public lecture at Coastal

Poet Katrina Vandenberg will present two poetry readings and a public lecture during her mini-residency at Coastal Carolina University from Oct. 31 to Nov. 2.

She will give a reading at Coastal's Waccamaw Higher Education Center, 160 Willbrook Blvd. in Litchfield, on Wednesday, Oct. 31 at 6 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.

On Thursday, Nov. 1 at 4:30 p.m. in Wall Auditorium, Vandenberg will also give a reading as part of the "Words to Say It Visiting Writers Series." The reading is free and open to the public; a book signing and light reception will follow.

A third public lecture titled "A Path to Poetry" about her work and life as a writer will be presented on Friday, Nov. 2 at 2:30 p.m. in the Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts, room 246.

During her time on campus, she will also visit four English classes and guest-teach the poetry workshop course.

Vandenberg's first book, "Atlas," was a finalist for the Minnesota Book Award, and her poetry has appeared in The American Scholar, The Iowa Review, Poetry Daily and other venues. She has received fellowships from the MacDowell Colony and the Fulbright and McKnight foundations. She is currently a Bush Artist Fellow in Literature and a volunteer at the Center for Victims of Torture in the Twin Cities.

The author's visit is made possible by the CCU's Nancy Arthur Smith Distinguished Visitors in Residence Series.
