CCU's Symphonic Band to perform in concert

Coastal Carolina University's Symphonic Band will present a concert as part of the Community Concert Series on Thursday, Nov. 8 at 7:30 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church. The event is free and open to the public.

The church is located off U.S. 501 near the Hard Rock Theme Park just west of the Intracoastal Waterway in Myrtle Beach, across from Medieval Times.

The band, composed of some 60 Coastal students of all majors, will perform a program that will feature:

* Gary Stegall, pianist and CCU professor of music, performing a movement from David Gillingham's "Concerto for Piano, Winds & Percussion."

* Percy Grainger's landmark piece "Irish Tune from County Derry" conducted by Amy Rosium-Foley, director of bands at Minnesota State University at Mankato.

* Other highlights include: "Pirates of the Caribbean," "Olympic Fanfare & Theme (1984)," "March of the Women Marines," "With Each Sunset" and "El Camino Real."

The band is directed by associate professor of music James L. Tully, director of bands at Coastal. The event is part of Coastal's 2007-2008 Cultural Arts Series. For more information, contact the Wheelwright Box Office at 349-2502.
