'An Affair to Care' to support Georgetown nonprofits

November 5, 2007

Coastal Carolina University and the United Way of Georgetown County are co-sponsoring a nonprofit holiday gift fair on Thursday, Nov. 15. The gift fair will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Waccamaw Higher Education Learning Center, 160 Willbrook Blvd. in Litchfield.

More than 20 community agencies based in Georgetown County will exhibit in this first-time event. By giving monetary gifts to one or more of the participating organizations in honor of another individual, donors will receive a memento they can give in turn to the person the gift recognizes. The memento will include a message communicating that a donation has been made in their honor to one of the participating agencies. Organizers of the fair say that it will help to support worthy community organizations and provides a new method of gift-giving that is unique, personal and philanthropic.

Participating organizations and agencies include: American Red Cross of Georgetown, the Boy Scouts Coastal Carolina Council, Citizens Against Spouse Abuse (CASA), Coastal Carolina University, First Steps of Georgetown, Friendship Place, Georgetown County Cultural Council, Georgetown County Family YMCA, Georgetown Marine Institute, Habitat for Humanity, HUGS for Horses, J.O.Y. School, Miss Ruby's Kids, Outreach Farm, Rape Crisis Center, SC Cares (Coastal Animal Rescue & Educational Sanctuary), Service Over Self, Smith Medical Clinic, Success by Six and Imagination Library, Tara Hall, Teach My People and Tidelands Community Hospice.
