CCU professor discusses color psychology, first in series

  Steven Bleicher
Coastal Carolina University professor Steven Bleicher will give a talk on "The Socioeconomics of Color Psychology," on Wednesday, Feb. 6, at 7 p.m., at Coastal's Waccamaw Higher Education Center. The discussion is free and open to the public.

This is the first event in Coastal's "I'm Glad You Asked" dialogue series, sponsored by the Board of Visitors of the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts. The discussion will cover various aspects of color psychology, the meanings and messages of colors, and color linked to social and economic status.

Bleicher, associate professor of visual arts, earned a bachelor's degree in fine arts and a master's degree of fine arts from Pratt Institute. He was previously a senior faculty member in the Arts and Humanities Program at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. He has worked and taught at the New York Studio School of Drawing, Painting and Sculpture, the State University of New York, Brooklyn College and Marian College, in addition to serving as assistant dean of the School of Art and Design at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York.

Bleicher's book "Contemporary Color: Theory and Use" was published in 2004. His work is currently on display in a major exhibition, "Marginal Terrain," at the Sante Fe Community College in Gainesville, Fla.
