"Understanding Animal Minds" is topic of Litchfield lecture

Coastal Carolina University professor Robert Bass will give a talk on the topic "Understanding Animal Minds" on Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. at Coastal's Waccamaw Higher Education Center. The discussion is free and open to the public.

This is the third event in Coastal's "I'm Glad You Asked" community dialogue series, sponsored by the Board of Visitors of the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts.

Based on discoveries that have been made through close observation, Bass will discuss the emotional and mental processes of animals. He will describe an animal's capability to love, reason, plan, deceive and feel anguish.

Bass is an assistant professor of philosophy at Coastal. He earned a bachelor's degree in philosophy from Wofford College, and a master's degree and a Ph.D. in philosophy from Bowling Green State University. Bass has taught at the University of North Florida, and his areas of expertise include ethical theory, political philosophy, animal ethics and philosophy of religion.

Coastal's Waccamaw Higher Education Center is located off of U.S. 17 at 160 Willbrook Blvd. behind the Hampton Inn in Litchfield. For more information call the College of Humanities and Fine Arts at 843-349-2421.
