CCU board approves budget reallocation

The Coastal Carolina University Board of Trustees has unanimously approved a budget reallocation for debt service in order to meet the capital project needs of the university. It is estimated that the reallocation could generate approximately $60 million in bond capacity, which would be used for capital projects for academics, student life, athletics and alumni. The board asked for the president and his staff to present a plan of action for the issuance of such bonds and a prioritized list of projects at its April 4 meeting.

To alleviate growing campus concerns about parking, the board approved a plan to seek the necessary approvals to make Chanticleer Drive a one-way road and install diagonal parking spaces along the interior lane. The temporary measure would provide approximately 400 additional parking spaces.

The board authorized exploring the purchase of a $2.1 million building in the Atlantic Center, which would be used for office and storage spaces.

The board approved the following leases: theater storage, $24,492; Alumni House, $4,200; Burroughs and Chapin Marine and Wetland Studies, Singleton Building, Atheneum Hall for $1; and the soccer field for $1.

The board authorized a $2,000 consulting contract for an assessment of the university's campus alcohol policies, educational programs and treatment services.

The board authorized the use of external references for the promotion and tenure process for faculty hired in fall 2008 or later.
