CCU director of bands receives Citation of Excellence

Coastal Carolina University's Director of Bands Jim Tully has been awarded a Citation of Excellence by the National Band Association at the South Carolina Music Educators Conference in Charleston last weekend.

The citation is awarded to an individual who has made significant contributions to the wind band field or an individual whose ensemble has a history of distinguished accomplishments.

Tully, an associate professor of music, joined Coastal's faculty in 2000; he oversees the university's bands along with wind and percussion studies. He also conducts the Symphonic Band, directs the Spirit of the Chanticleer Marching Band, and teaches courses in conducting and wind band literature. In addition, Tully holds various offices in associations at the state and national levels, is published through JW3 Music Publishers and is a frequent guest conductor and clinician with secondary and collegiate bands across the country. He earned a master's degree in music from West Virginia University, and an Ed.D. from the University of Memphis.
