Coastal Carolina University professors Arne Flaten and Paul Olsen will give a talk on "Ashes2Art: Digital Reconstruction of Ancient Delphi, Greece" on Wednesday, March 12 at 7 p.m. at Coastal's Waccamaw Higher Education Center in Litchfield. The discussion is free and open to the public.

This is the sixth event in CCU's "I'm Glad You Asked" dialogue series, sponsored by the Board of Visitors of the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts.

The professors will describe how their nationally acclaimed Ashes2Art program enables students to combine digital technology, art history, archeology, web design, panoramic photography and data retrieval tools to build digital interactive models of ancient monuments at Delphi, Epidauros, Olympia, Nemea, Corinth and Athens.

Flaten, a CCU assistant professor of visual arts, earned a bachelor's degree in studio art and English literature from St. Olaf College, a master's degree and a doctorate in art history from Indiana University-Bloomington. He has lived in various parts of the world including the Middle East, Central Africa and Europe. He is a specialist on the Italian Renaissance, on which he has published many articles and essays.

Olsen, chair and professor of graphic design and photography at CCU, earned bachelor's and master's degrees in fine arts from the University of Miami. He has worked as an art director for several advertising agencies, and he previously taught at Mississippi University for Women and Columbia College in Missouri. He is a veteran of the Vietnam War, and his photography has been exhibited around the U.S. and abroad.

Coastal's Waccamaw Higher Education Center is located off of U.S. 17 at 160 Willbrook Blvd. behind the Hampton Inn in Litchfield.
