Coastal Carolina University history professor John Navin will give a talk titled "Bullets and Ballots: The Impact of Wars on U.S. Presidential Elections" on Wednesday, March 19 at 7 p.m. at Coastal's Waccamaw Higher Education Center in Litchfield. The discussion is free and open to the public.

This event is part of CCU's "I'm Glad You Asked" dialogue series, sponsored by the Board of Visitors of the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts.

Navin will offer new perspectives on the current contest for the White House by describing the impact of armed conflicts on political careers and campaigns in U.S. history, with particular focus on wartime presidential elections.

Navin, associate dean of the Edwards College and associate professor of history, joined CCU in 1999. He earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Massachusetts at Boston, a master's degree from Boston College and a doctorate from Brandeis University. His areas of expertise include early American history through the antebellum period.

Coastal's Waccamaw Higher Education Center is located off of U.S. 17 at 160 Willbrook Blvd. behind the Hampton Inn in Litchfield.
