At 4:50 p.m. Coastal Carolina University officials learned that a shooting had occurred in the College Park residential community near campus. The Horry County Police Department is investigating the incident.

As a safety measure for the entire campus community, Coastal President David A. DeCenzo has announced that all classes and scheduled university events will resume at 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 15.

The campus will be open as regularly scheduled tomorrow morning; employees are expected to report at their normal times. The university will reassess the situation tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. Tonight, campus police will be based at The Commons, the campus cafeteria, both inside and in the parking lot to provide security escort for students who need it. Students who live in College Park and would rather stay at another location tonight may call campus police at 843 349-2177. Students who may need counseling as a result of events may call campus police for counseling referrals.
