Dina Hall's photographic landscapes to be on exhibit
Summer hours of the gallery are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to noon on Friday. The closing reception will be Thursday, Aug. 28 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Hall uses the landscape and portraiture to explore metaphors related to the rhythms of life and its cycles. The artist says of her work, "Landscape As Metaphor is a title for something I have been doing since the 1980s when I took photography as my primary medium. Looking back, I can see that the subject matter I photograph is usually chosen for 'what it is and what else it is' (as the photographer Minor White said of his own work). More recently I have sought out people who connect with the landscape and complement the metaphor idea. Specifically, in this exhibit, 'Times, Tides, and Seasons' is an attempt to show the cyclical events of a whole life from one year's shooting of Murrells Inlet. 'George at Ninety' is paired with 'Murrells Inlet Oak' since both demonstrate a sense of dignity and strength through the art of aging."
In addition to her long career as an art instructor at Conway High School and Coastal Carolina University, Hall's work has been widely exhibited. She is the recent recipient of first prize at the 30th Annual Statewide Arts Competition at the Florence Museum of Art, Science and History.
