Veterans' exhibition comes to campus

November 5, 2008

"Eyes Wide Open: Beyond Fear, Towards Hope," a national exhibit recognizing veterans killed in the Iraq War, will be displayed on the Coastal Carolina University campus on Monday, Nov. 10 and Tuesday, Nov. 11. The Veteran's Day event is free and open to the public.

The installation displays approximately 50 pairs of boots, representing South Carolina veterans killed in the Iraq War. The exhibit will be located on the University's Prince Lawn, near the entrance of the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts building. Biographical information on each deceased veteran accompanies each pair of boots. Hours of the exhibition are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.

Since "Eyes Wide Open" embarked on its national tour in June 2007, the exhibit has been shown in 44 states. The purpose of the installation is to recognize the human cost of war and to remember the sacrifices of our veterans.

The exhibit is sponsored by the University's Department of Politics and Geography, the Department of History, the Globalist Club, the Rebecca Randall Bryan Art Gallery and Five Rivers Friends (Quaker) Meeting of Conway.
