Coastal Educational Foundation elects new officers

The Coastal Educational Foundation has elected new officers for the two-year term of 2008-2010. They are: Carl O. Falk, president; David Douglas, vice president; and Dennis Wade, secretary/treasurer.

Falk, of Pawleys Island, is the president of the Falk-Griffin Foundation Inc. He chairs the board of directors of Teach My People and the Palmetto Family Council and he is a past chair of the Lowcountry Foodbank and of Habitat for Humanity of Georgetown County. Falk is a member of the board of trustees of Brookgreen Gardens and of the ETV Endowment of South Carolina. He has served on the board of visitors for the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts.

Douglas, of Galivants Ferry, is president of Douglas Development LLC, which redeveloped Seagate Village community on the former Myrtle Beach Air Force Base. He served on the board of directors of the March of Dimes and received its first distinguished citizen's award. He is a board member of the Little River Medical Clinic as well as vice chairman of the Board of Architectural Review for Horry County. He serves on the board of visitors for the E. Craig Wall Sr. College of Business Administration. He earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Wade is president and CEO of the Jackson Companies. He serves on the board of visitors for the Wall College and was a former member of the board of directors of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce and of the S.C. Chamber of Commerce. He was the 2002 recipient of the Distinguished Young Alumnus Award from the USC Moore School of Business.

The Coastal Educational Foundation was formed in 1954 by a group of citizens interested in establishing an institution of higher education in the Waccamaw region of South Carolina. The group founded the institution that is now known as Coastal Carolina University. The foundation's mission is to seek and provide resources for the betterment of the University. Since its inception, the foundation has been extremely active in its fundraising efforts for the University and has conducted several successful campaigns. The organization's board of directors primarily comprises business and community leaders from the University's designated service area.
