Kenneth J. Martin, associate professor and chair of Coastal Carolina University's Department of Theatre, has been named the exhibit tour director for the next Prague Quadrennial scheduled for the summer of 2011.

The Prague Quadrennial, held every four years in the capitol city of the Czech Republic, is one of the world's most prestigious competitive theatre art exhibitions. The United States Institute for Theatre Technology produces the United States exhibits (national, student and architecture) as a showcase for achievement in American design.

As exhibit tour director, Martin will be responsible for packaging the exhibit items and marketing the exhibit to museums throughout the world.

The 15-day Prague Quadrennial is the only exhibition of its kind and magnitude in the world that exhibits contemporary stage designs and theatre architecture. In addition to the exhibit displays, the event offers its spectators and participants with a unique platform for encountering the theatre culture and its artists from all over the world. The participants receive unique opportunities of trading experiences, discovering new theatre trends and technical possibilities, and gaining hands-on experience of the new working methods by participating in the workshops.

Martin is a scenic and lighting designer and chair of the Department of Theatre at Coastal Carolina University. He has worked in professional theatre for more than 25 years. Through his membership in United Scenic Artists, his design work has been featured in productions by many companies, including Surflight Theatre in New Jersey, Theatre by the Sea in Rhode Island and the Florida Repertory Theatre.

In the academic arena, Martin has served in a variety of capacities for the U.S. Institute for Theatre Technology and the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival. He has been teaching for 14 years while keeping active in regional professional theater.
