Concert will highlight contemporary art and theater songs

"An American Voice," a recital featuring baritone Jeffrey Jones and pianist Robert Mills, will be presented at Coastal Carolina University on Tuesday, Feb. 10 at 7:30 p.m. The event is free but ticketed and will be held in the Recital Hall of the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts. Tickets may be obtained during the week at Wheelwright Box Office or prior to the concert at the door.

The program will feature a selection of contemporary American art and theater songs by Samuel Barber, Leonard Bernstein, David Conte, Lee Hoiby and Richard Rodgers. The songs, both old and new, are all part of America's rich musical landscape.

Jones, assistant professor of music at Coastal Carolina University, is a native of Springfield, Mo. He taught at Grand Canyon University and Arizona State University. He earned a master's degree in opera performance and a doctorate in vocal performance at the University. He earned a bachelor's degree from the University of North Texas and is a graduate of the Inerlochen Arts Academy. He has performed with a variety of opera companies. His regional work has primarily occurred in Arizona, Georgia and the Carolinas.

Mills, assistant professor of music at Arizona State University, is the vocal coach and accompanist for the University Lyric Opera. He has received a master's degree and a doctorate of musical arts from the University as well his bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland. Mills also holds both a juris doctor and a master's degree in library science from Brigham Young University.
