Professor to speak at museum's literary series

Professor Steve Hamelman will lead a discussion on the poetry of Emily Dickenson at this week's Up for Discussion, the popular literary collaboration of Coastal Carolina University and the Franklin G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum on Tuesday, March 10, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Hamelman teaches undergraduate courses in American literature, literary theory and composition in the English Department at Coastal Carolina University. His scholarly work is reflected in many publications and conference papers on the early American novel, theory and popular music. He earned bachelor's and master's degrees at Brandeis University He has been a full professor at Coastal since 2001. He was recently named the University's HTC Distinguished Teacher-Scholar Lecturer.

The recurring series, held at the Museum, features an evening devoted to a particular author, book, short story or other genre. The public has the opportunity to interact with faculty members as they discuss these works.

All Up for Discussion literary events are free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. Space is limited so reservations are required. Call 843-238-2510.
