Suheir Daoud

Coastal Carolina University professor Suheir Daoud will lead a discussion on "The Israeli-Arab Conflict" Wednesday, March 25 at 7 p.m. at the University's Waccamaw Higher Education Center in Litchfield. The event is free and open to the public.

Daoud, assistant professor of politics, will begin with a review of the Oslo Peace Accords that were signed 16 years ago between Israel and the Palestinian Liberation Organization. She will also give a brief background of the conflict, discuss the conflict post-9/11 terrorist attacks, focusing on the Palestinian Hamas-Fatah division and touch on the war in Iraq and other issues.

Daoud, who joined the Coastal Carolina University faculty in 2008, specializes in Middle East politics. She earned a bachelor's degree in political science and international relations and a doctorate in political science from Hebrew University of Jerusalem. She also earned a master's degree in international development and social change from Clark University in Massachusetts.

This is the final session in the University's "Creativity and Conflict" dialogue series, sponsored annually by the Board of Visitors of the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts.
